about baran bo odar
baran bo odar, or ,bo‘ how everybody calls him, was born in switzerland in 1978.
the early passion to tell, moving‘ stories had saved him from lots of trouble in his childhood days, coming up with fantastic tall tales for setting the kitchen underwater, shaving the christmas tree and other family experiments. so bo decided to use his story talent for the better and studied directing at the munich film school.
he has worked on several commercials, music videos and short films. in 2011 he has finished his debut film ,the silence‘ (staring ulrich thomson, wotan wilke möhring, burghart klaussner and katrin sass), which premiered at the piazza grande in locarno and went on to an exciting festival tour, winning lots of prices, selling to over 15 countries worldwide and gained bo a spot as one of the variety‘s ten directors to watch of 2011. since then he is also represented by the united talent agency in los angeles for feature films and his career gets ahead.
in october 2014 his feature film ,who am i' (staring tom schilling, elyas m'barek, wotan wilke möhring, hannah herzsprung, antoine monnot jr.) started very successful.
hollywood actor jamie foxx asked him to direct his next film "sleepless" and also netflix boss reed hastings wants to meet him for a new serie project.
together with jantje friese he is the showrunner of the netflix original series dark which was launched dec 1st 2017 worldwide on netflix in over 190 countries and is now one of the most watched series on netflix. currently he is shooting season 3 for dark.
bo is a true multitasking director, he has a strong visual language, a great sense of working with actors, he is always well prepared and apart from that simply a cool guy to hang out with. but the best thing about him is, that he never forgets that the backbone of each project is a moving story.
