Kitty Bertazzi is an award winning Brazilian film director, based in Berlin.
She was born in Rio de Janeiro, and raised in Sao Paulo. While studying acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York, she developed a taste for being behind the camera. After completing cinema courses at New York University (NYU), she moved back to Brazil and started directing at O2 films, the production house affiliated with Fernando Meirelles, director of the iconic "City of God."
It was after the birth of her two sons that she fell in love with the naturalness and spontaneity of children and began to dedicate herself to filming them. It was they who taught her to look for the truth in every scene she films, regardless of the subject. She likes the way they behave in relation to the world, without pre-judgements, and she loves capturing these moments. Now her sons are grown up and she is filming other children with the same passion.
She also loves traveling, getting to know places and people.
The idea of being in Berlin now is also to be in a more central country, to be able to travel more often and to have access to new ideas and people, varying the front and background of her films, with or without children.
Throughout her career Kitty directed a variety of commercials in different styles. A key aspect of her work is a genuine affection for collaborating with actors, especially children. This enthusiasm is evident in her work, where authenticity, intuition and empathy define her creative vision. This enthusiasm is evident in her work, where naturalism, spontaneity and a touch of naivety define her creative vision.
